Hanover police have charged a young man accused of seriously injuring another man during a stabbing late Wednesday night.
At around 11:40 p.m., officers were called to an area on 11th Avenue between 6th and 8th Streets for a reported stabbing. When police arrived, they located a man bleeding on the sidewalk from several stab wounds.
The victim was taken to hospital in serious condition. Once he was stabilized, he was airlifted to a trauma centre for surgery. Police say the man’s injuries are potentially life-altering, but non-life threatening.
Investigators have since identified the suspect, and sometime early Thursday morning, police located and arrested the accused at his home without incident. A search of the suspect’s home turned up a knife police believe was used in the attack.
The two men are reportedly known to each other and were engaged in an argument ahead of the assault, police said.
An 18-year-old Hanover man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace. He was taken back into police custody after his bail hearing.
Members of the Hanover Police Service continue to investigate the incident. West Grey police assisted with securing several crime scenes while the Mount Forest Identification Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police completed the forensic examinations.
Anyone with information is asked to call Hanover police.
