Hazardous waste collection set for Saturday in Owen Sound

The City of Owen Sound is offering people in the region a chance to safely get rid of hazardous waste.

The first Household Hazardous Waste Day of 2023 will coincide with Earth Day on Saturday, April 22.

It will be open to residents from the City of Owen Sound, the Township of Chatsworth, the Township of Georgian Bluffs, the Municipality of Grey Highlands, and the Municipality of Meaford. However, West Grey residents are not included this year. People are asked to fill out a hazardous waste form before dropping off items at the Public Works Facility located at 1900 20th Street East between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Hazardous waste includes many items such as aerosol cans, antifreeze, batteries , bleach, fertilizers, fuels, household cleaners, painkillers, propane tanks, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. However infectious wastes like syringes, as well as radioactive wastes, explosives or hazardous waste from commercial, industrial or farm operations cannot be accepted.

The Household Hazardous Waste Form can be found at OwenSound.ca/WasteForm. People should bring identification with their address on it. The City of Owen Sound hosts eight annual Household Hazardous Waste Days to keep hazardous waste out of landfills and waterways. This year, the Household Hazardous Waste Day events take place in Owen Sound on eight Saturdays: April 22, May 13, June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16, October 14, and October 28.
