The Port Elgin Curling Club will host the 2023 Ontario Tankard and Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts next January.

The provincial curling events will be held simultaneously from January 23 to 29 at the Plex in Port Elgin.

The announcement comes on the heels of a summary from the organizing group of the success of the Ontario Tankard held in Port Elgin in February.

Officials estimate 5,500 watched the Tankard in Port Elgin, the max under the capacity limits set by the province at the time due to COVID-19.

Through the event, more than $22,000 was raised by 10 area curling clubs through ticket sales.

Those clubs included:

Bluewater Curling Club
Chesley Curling Club
Kincardine Curling Club
Markdale Golf and Country Club
Paisley Curling Club
Port Elgin Curling Club
Southampton Curling Club
Tara Curling Club
Walkerton Curling Club
Wiarton Curling Club

And over $4,500 was raised through the Rotary Club of Port Elgin 50/50 draw in support of Women’s House serving Grey Bruce, Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, and the Foodbank.

There is already one entry for the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts next year.

Team Homan has a berth in the 2023 event thanks to its win this year.

Officials say sponsor agreements are in the process of being signed now with more announcements to come in the near future.
