Terry Fox Runs ready to go this Sunday

Terry Fox Runs will happen right across the country Sunday, including in Wingham.

Testicular Cancer survivors Scott Miller and Steve Jackson are organizing this year’s event.

Miller said the local run has been going for 34 years, so it’s exciting as the event returns to an in person format. Miller says the event is more than just a run.

“It’s as much a celebration of Terry Fox and the amazing work he’s done, and trying to honour his legacy. From a really local level, it’s a way to honour and remember people we’ve lost over the past year from cancer and celebrate the people that have beat cancer and are currently trying to fight cancer,” he said. “The main goal is to fund more research to create better outcomes for more people and ultimately, maybe I’m in a blue sky world here, but eradicate cancer. That was Terry’s goal when he embarked on a cross Canada journey at the age of 22.”

The Wingham run has raised over $540,000 over the past 34 years, while it was orchestrated by Dale and Linda Edgar.

Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Lions Picnic Shelter in Lion’s Park. The run starts at 11:00 a.m. Participants can walk, run, bicycle, rollerblades, or use their wheelchair.
