Johnny K Sports eyeing August reopening

The owner of Johnny K Sports says although a final engineering report has not yet been made available, he feels his building will be left standing following a fire in Hanover’s downtown last month.

Johnny Kolias says all inventory in the store at the time of the fire was sent away last week and has been deemed a total loss.

Kolias says “we are just getting ready for a major renovation in the store. There hasn’t been a final engineering report, but my feeling right now is that the building is going to stay.”

The building that houses the popular sports store received some visible smoke damage to its eastern side, which is where the Fabulous Fashions Consignment Boutique and former Forum Hotel Rooming House once stood before a fire broke out on Thursday, May 19th at 2:00 a.m.

Some people, including firefighters, had to be treated for smoke inhalation after the fire, but no serious injuries or deaths have been reported.

Kolias says his current goal is to re-open in time for the hockey season, possibly August, but a major renovation is getting underway this week.

He also thanked friends, colleagues and business owners that have reached out since the fire, calling the support “overwhelming.”
