Wingham’s Coldest Night of the Year Event deemed successful

Despite not hitting the fundraising goal, Saturday’s Coldest Night of the Year walk in Wingham is being called a success by the United Way Perth Huron’s Manager of Community Development for Northern Huron.

Lisa Harper says it turned out to be a good night for a walk.

“We had close to 95 walkers. We had 16 teams that signed up, and as of Saturday, we reached 50 per cent of our goal of $45,000.  And donations can still be made to the Coldest Night of the Year and you can do that online,” Harper explained

That can be done online by going to www.cony.org. Harper says funds raised from the Wingham Walk will go towards the Northern Huron Connection Centre, which they hope to open soon.

Wingham was one of several Out of the Cold Walks on Saturday. Goderich Community Development Manager Michelle Field says they had 285 walkers, including 53 teams and they were able to raise just over $125,000, which is $25,000 above their goal.

Field is also the Community Development Manager in Southern Huron and she says they had a total of 126 walkers including twenty teams and they reached their goal of $41,000.

North Perth Community Committee chair Lee Anne Andriessen says they had 31 teams and a total of 150 walkers and they raised almost $64,000  of a goal of $68,0000 with donations still coming in.
