Bluewater council has developed a draft bylaw aimed at addressing issues related to short-term rentals, according to Chief Building Official Aaron Stewardson.

The proposed bylaw aims to control noise, parking, and other bylaw complaints associated with short-term rental properties while striking a balance between economic development and the tourism industry.

Stewardson clarified that the council is not trying to restrict short-term rents, but rather aiming to create a harmonious coexistence among the different sectors involved while ensuring the public’s welfare with regards to bylaw complaints, saying “Council is looking to have something in place to help control some noise, parking and other bylaw complaints related to short term rental properties. If people still want to comments we definitely receive them and make sure council hears those comments.”

Stewardson revealed that the council is eyeing to pass the final version of the bylaw in March, receive all short-term rental applications in April, and fully implement the bylaw by July 1st. The council is open to receiving comments and suggestions from the public to ensure that their voices are heard.

“Council’s looking to create a good harmony with both the economic development and the tourism industry and keeping the public at peace as far as bylaw complaints go. So we’re hoping to have something in place to control both aspects” added Stewardson.

The proposed bylaw is seen as a step towards addressing concerns related to short-term rentals, which have become increasingly popular in many areas but have also raised issues related to noise, parking, and other complaints. The council’s efforts are aimed at promoting a safe and peaceful environment for both short-term rental property owners and the general public.
