Construction on Saugeen Beach road begins

Construction has started on a section of Saugeen Beach Road in Port Elgin, aimed at minimizing erosion and protecting natural beach areas.

The town of Saugeen Shores said the project, located in the area where the road meets up with Bruce Road 25, will see armour stone protection added and the reinstating of asphalt, and is being undertaken following input from residents that are concerned about the area in high water events.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau said the project restores an important road in the community, and makes the road safer for both drivers and beach users, as well as helping to preserve the beach itself.

The work is expected to be completed before the end of 2022.
