St. Marys provides brief update on cyber incident

The Town of St. Marys has provided a brief statement on the recent cyber security incident in the town on July 20th.

A release from the town states that “upon learning of the incident, the Town took immediate steps to contain, manage and protect its data. The municipality has now engaged industry experts Deloitte Canada to assist with the response and conduct a thorough investigation of the incident. In the meantime, all critical municipal services such as fire, police, transit, and water/wastewater systems continue to operate as usual. Municipal staff are performing their regular duties and are available by phone, email or in person at Town facilities.”

The town has not yet clarified what departments or information was targeted during the cyber attack. Questions about the incident can be directed to communications@town.stmarys.on.ca or 519-284-2340, ext. 241.

“I want to thank our residents for their understanding and patience as we investigate this incident,” says Mayor Al Strathdee. “We are committed to transparency and will provide further information and direction as it becomes available.”
