Local MPP’s given added responsibilities

Two local MPP’s new to Queen’s Park will have some added responsibilities.

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae has been appointed as Parliamentary Assistant to Education Minister Stephen Lecce.

“It’s a great honour to serve the people of Perth-Wellington and Ontario in this additional role. My professional experience in education and representing a predominantly rural riding provides me with a unique perspective,” stated Rae.

Rae noted he is looking forward to working with Lecce on learning recovery, mental health, and a return to normal classes.

The Ministry of Education will also be busy with contract negotiations as teachers’ contracts are set to expire in August.

The new MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound will be dealing with more numbers.

Rick Byers has been named as Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario’s Minister of Finance.

Byers says his career experience in the financial markets makes him a good fit for the role.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work directly with Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy,” says MPP Byers. “I have known Peter for many years, and I look forward to working together with the excellent team at the Ministry of Finance to get things done for our province and our riding.”

Parliamentary Assistants work with ministers in carrying out their duties and supporting them as required including special projects and assignments.

They also help build relationships across the province.
