The Minto Pride group has announced their upcoming event schedule.
Organizer Rosie Krul says it will kick off Sunday, May 15th, with an event called the Big Gay Hike, which is in coordination with ARCH, the HIV/Aids Resources and Community Health group who run the hikes out of Guelph.
“We’re in their catchment area, so they run this program called Big Gay Hike, and it’s a series focusing on cultivating positive wellbeing and mental health resiliency in trans, non-binary, two-spirit and other LGBTQ people.”
Anyone wishing to join the hike can do so this Sunday with the group who will meet at White’s Junction at the train by the Foodland parking lot in Palmerston at 1 p.m., and you can register for the hike on eventbrite.ca.
Following that, two events will be held on back-to-back days in June, starting with a drag show in Harriston on June 11th. Krul says they will have different performers than the first time the Minto Pride group hosted a drag show back in 2019.
“We’ll be having performers from Lavender Promotions, and even more exciting, the Crown Harriston, where the drag show is going to be is actually licensed this year so, yeah, it’s going to be a real live drag show. It is going to be all ages, so anyone is welcome to come. It’ll be June 11th at 8 p.m.”
Tickets can be found online on the Crown Harriston’s website. The next day, Minto Pride will host their annual Pride in the Park event in Harriston. Krul says it will be June 12th from 12-2 p.m. rain or shine. She says all the familiar fun activities will be back including face painting, crafts, train rides around the Palmerston park again, but there will be a new twist this year.
“New this year, we’re also having vendors, so we’re very excited to have Birdie’s Holy Guacamole from Listowel who will be selling tacos, and we’re also going to have a beaver tails food truck, as well. There’s also going to be a selection of craft vendors. We encourage everyone to come, it’s an event for everyone in the community, it’s not just for those that identify on the LGBTQ spectrum, so everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there.”
