Man faces charges after truck goes over cliff in Owen Sound

A man faces drunk driving charges after a pick-up truck was found lodged in some trees down the escarpment on the northeast side of Owen Sound.

Police were called just after 6 p.m. Friday about a truck that went ‘off the cliff’ in the area of 20th Street East and 5th Avenue East.

The heavily damaged Chevrolet Silverado was found with the driver standing next to the door.

The 45-year old male driver was checked for injuries, then arrested and taken to the Grey Bruce Health Services where samples of breath were taken by a police breathalyzer technician.

Tests showed the driver had one-and-one-half times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

The accused was officially charged with Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired -Over 80 mgs and Dangerous Operation, and those charges have yet to be proven in court.

The truck was towed from the escarpment on Saturday.
