Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance CEO, Andrew Williams, says there was a lot of discussion at this week’s board meeting about the pandemic status at this point.

And there is some encouraging news.

“We’re happy to see numbers, more broadly, looking like their cresting. We’re still, in the hospital sector, expecting numbers to stay where they are, certainly over the next few weeks. And then, optimistically, we look at the relaxing of public health measures. We’re going to hope, obviously, that that doesn’t have a spike impact on hospitalizations,” said Williams.

He adds while the Omicron strain is much more transmissible it tends to be less aggressive on some people who get it.

However, the people they’re seeing in the hospital are very sick.

“But the people who are getting sick are getting very sick and we’re still seeing, unfortunately, a direct relationship between the sickest and vaccination status. So we can’t impress on people enough the importance of getting vaccinated, getting boosted,” added Williams.
