Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb says it is time for the federal government to embrace new technologies.

Lobb has been named Shadow Minister of Digital Government.

“The goal of digital government is looking at it three ways, short, medium and long term,” said Lobb. “With the underpinning priorities to have world class staff, world class IT software to serve Canadians.”

Lobb says Canada is a G-7 country, and it’s time the federal government begins to fully embrace technologies like cloud computing.

As for the job itself, the Huron-Bruce MP says he has experience.

“Through the years I have sat on many committees and one recurring theme that has come up time and time again through the years is that Canada is behind the times, as far as the government goes, on the infrastructure, on the software that we provide,” added Lobb.

Conservative leader Erin O’Toole announced his Shadow Cabinet this week which also included the appointment of Perth-Wellington MP John Nater as Shadow Minister for Canadian Heritage.
