COVID-19 cases climb in parts of Midwestern Ontario

The province has confirmed 3,124 new cases of COVID- 19 Friday, along with another five fatalities due to the virus. As of today, there are 157 people being treated in the ICU for COVID-19. Of those patients, 33 are fully vaccinated.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported two residents are in the ICU with COVID-19, and four other  victims are hospitalized. Public health adds that unvaccinated residents are 11.5x more likely to end up in hospital with COVID-19, than those who have two doses. There were 75 new cases today, 13 of them in Wellington County. There are 78 active cases in Wellington, including 17 in Wellington North, 20 in Minto, and six in Mapleton.

Huron Perth Public Health reported eight new cases of the novel coronavirus Friday, and 100 active cases. Four of the new cases were in Stratford, two in Perth East, and one each in  Perth South, Howick, Central Huron, North Huron and South Huron. Three cases were referred to other health units. There are now nine school outbreaks, and three residents are in hospital with the virus. 70 residents have succumbed to the virus.
