Local police officer facing charges following investigation

A Hanover Police officer is facing charges following an investigation.
Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll shared in a release that on January 3, he ordered a criminal investigation following an internal investigation into an incident in the Hanover cell blocks that occurred on January 2. The assistance of the Owen Sound Police Service was requested for the investigation into the use of force on a person in custody to determine if the level of force used was
appropriate in the circumstances.
On March 9, Constable Kelly Breen was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon, Administering a Noxious Thing, Assault, and Breach of Trust by Public Officer.
Constable Breen has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for April 12 in Owen Sound to answer to the charges, which have yet to be proven in a court of law. During the investigation, Constable Breen was are-assigned to station duties, but following the arrest, Constable Breen has been suspended with pay “in accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario,” the release stated.
Hanover Police Chief Chris Knoll added in the release that “since this matter is currently before the courts, there will be no further information released at this time.”
