Saugeen Shores council has renewed its lease with Port Adult Recreation Centre 55+ (PARC) for use of the Rotary Hall for the next three years.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau said PARC 55+ operates recreation and leisure programming for adults 55 and over.
“Seniors can get together and socialize with one another and engage in some activities. 19 percent of our population is over the age of 75 and those numbers are increasing,” said Charbonneau.
Some activities seniors can participate in include card games, a book club, and table tennis.
Charbonneau added keeping this service is important to the seniors in Saugeen Shores.
“It’s important for folks at any age to have chances to meet new people, to socialize, and to have relationships and activities,” he said. “One of the biggest issues coming out of the pandemic has been mental health. One of the biggest ways you can help improve people’s mental health is by getting them together.”
“We want people to be healthy and we want people to be happy in our community and we’re very fortunate to have organizations like PARC 55+ who are helping us to do that. The town is a really eager and happy partner,” added Charbonneau.
PARC has operated programming out of Rotary Hall since 2002 and the PARC 55+ room since 2007.
