Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for all of midwestern Ontario, calling for a high impact winter storm starting late Thursday.
The significant winter storm may begin as rain or snow late Thursday, possible changing to rain early Friday. Then temperatures will plummet Friday, which could mean a flash freeze if there is rainfall.
Strong and potentially damaging winds along with heavy snow are expected, with blizzard conditions possible late Friday into the weekend for areas downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
A multi-day lake effect snow event is expected into the weekend in the wake of the system for locations east of the Great Lakes.
While there is high confidence this will be a high impact winter storm, Environment Canada said the details regarding wind speeds, precipitation types and amounts remain highly uncertain at this time.
