Weather experts are advising residents that severe thunderstorms may rumble through parts of the region on Wednesday.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for several areas in southwestern Ontario, including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties, Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce counties.
The weather agency stated that thunderstorms could develop over eastern Michigan or Lake Huron Wednesday afternoon Lake Huron and track east.
“Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat, though large hail and a few tornadoes are also possible. A significant tornado cannot be ruled out,” read a statement from Environment Canada.
Most of the areas included in the special weather statement are also under a heat warning as hot and humid conditions are expected to persist into Wednesday evening, which is also when the threat of thunderstorms should decrease.
Temperatures are expected to cool off slightly on Thursday.
