The Warden for Huron County welcomes Ontario’s plans to make childcare more affordable. Glen McNeil calls early childhood education an important service.
“Affordable early childhood education is vital for our community, not just for the families that use these services, but also for the potential economic ripple effect created from helping parents remain in the workforce and families having greater disposable incomes.” said McNeil
County of Huron Children’s Services currently maintains 12 licensed childcare centres and an additional 12 licensed home-based locations. Approximately 1500 children participated in licensed childcare programs in 2021.
Ontario plans to invest 13.2 billion dollars over six years to help offset costs of childcare for families. For participating childcare centres, the Ontario Better Deal promises to reduce child
care fees through four steps of reduction over several years for an average of $10 a day per child by September 2025.
The County of Huron Children’s Services Team is working with local childcare providers who wish to participate in the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care Plan. Children’s Services staff will continue to communicate updates to families and providers as more information becomes available.
