The MP for Perth-Wellington announced that the application portal is now open for employers to get funding for the Canada Summer Jobs Program in 2022.
John Nater announced on December 16th that funding will be available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with under 50 employees, to hire qualified young people aged 15 to 30 for a summer position.
The application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2022 is December 16th to January 25th in the new year.
The release states that “Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for young people. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities.”
Nater says in the release that despite trying to lobby the Ministers of Finance and Employment, the dates for employer applications and notifications still have not been moved up to allow for earlier hiring.
According to Nater, the April notification date is often too late for most students to find out if they have a summer job. He notes it also leaves employers hanging on whether or not they’re getting funding to hire summer student workers.
“The April notification date is much too late for most students to find out if they have a summer job, but employers also must budget and therefore need confirmation of whether or not they will receive funding well in advance of this date,” shared Nater. “University and college students in particular must have an idea of where they will be working in the summer by mid-February.”
“Through Canada Summer Jobs, young Canadians have the opportunity to gain the skills and experience they need to get jobs now and in the future,” added Nater. “I encourage employers to apply for funding to create jobs that will help students, employers and our local economies. Last summer more than 350 young people were employed across Perth—Wellington, creating jobs in our communities.”
