Perth County OPP is investigating a victim of a social media trend, after someone kicked in the front door of a home in Listowel.
The incident happened on December 4 at around 8:00 p.m. on Brock Street West.
Officers were able to track down three suspects nearby.
The three teens, two 13 and one 14, and all from North Perth, were referred to a diversion program.
Police are reminding parents to speak to children and youth about the risks of participating in social media challenges, as the believe the youths were participating in a recent one that encourages kids to kick in the door of a stranger’s house.
“What parents and youth need to realize is that Mischief is a criminal offence. But more than that, it causes unnecessary stress for members of our community,” said Acting Inspector Wendy Burrow, Perth County OPP.
A Diversion program is an extrajudicial measure under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
They require the young person to repair the harm done to the victim and allow for early intervention with young people and provide the opportunity for the broader community to play a role in developing community-based responses to youth crime.
