The Saugeen Shores Police Service is experiencing an increase in call volume, as officers dealt with 833 calls for service last month, the highest total for any November.
Sergeant Andy Evans says that calls have been trending upwards for a while, and every month in 2021 saw an increase over the previous year.
“When a community grows, that increases the amount of times people interact with each other. With that, you will see an increase in calls. People are coming to Saugeen Shores and as people live and share a community they will have those interactions and some will be positive and some will be negative and we’re here to assist them,” said Sgt. Evans.
He adds SSPS has plans to increase in numbers to reflect the growth of the community. “Our officers are working hard everyday to answer these calls and the officers have definitely noticed that the calls are going up but we do have a well trained, professional service here that are dealing with them very well.”
Sgt. Evans says if you’re wondering if you should call the police for any reason, don’t hesitate, and make the call. “Regret is something that people can make when they don’t call the police, so that’s why we’re here. People pay taxes and we’re here to serve and we don’t want people to ever hesitate to call us for any reason.”
Some November stats include 97 traffic enforcement calls, 31 property damage calls, and 25 motor vehicle collisions.
