Huron County’s Climate Change and Energy Specialist says it’s very important that municipal leaders know what to expect from climate change so they can prepare and adapt to the changes that climate change will bring.
Lily Morrow says, projections for Huron County by 2050 include higher annual temperatures.
“Within Huron County, we are projected to see higher annual temperatures, more extreme rainfall events and more extreme weather events, which is rainfall and snow and ice events. So it’s valuable information that allows us to anticipate what the next few years could look like and plan for it.”
Morrow adds, by 2050, projections indicate the temperature will have increased by 3 degrees, or twice the target of 1.5 degrees set in the Paris Accord.
“Ideally, if we slow greenhouse gas emissions on a global scale, we would slow that annual rise in temperature, but at the current levels and projections, we are expected to exceed that.”
