Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance CEO, Andrew Williams, says recruitment in all sectors of health care has been a challenge for some time.
But he told members of the HPPA board last week that the pandemic has certainly added to that challenge.
“One of the on-going challenges in a lot of communities is access to primary-care physicians and we do have individuals across our communities who are waiting to secure a family doctor and just given recent recruitment efforts, we’re really confident that we’ll be able to address that in the coming months,” said Williams.

“If you’ve got a physician who’s got a practice of two-thousand, five-hundred people retire and you can’t immediately replace that individual, then you have a lot who are looking for family doctors. So we’re constantly working with the system and trying to make sure we identify when we need new individuals coming in and then we recruit pro-actively around that,” added Williams.
Another impact of the pandemic is that in-person visits with a physician are now often virtual visits, but they’re working on addressing that.
