West Grey time capsule ceremony cancelled

A time capsule ceremony at the West Grey Public Library schedule for Friday has been cancelled.

In a release, the library says there is simply too much traffic at the Durham branch of the library due to offering proof-of-vaccination service, printing, copying, reducing and laminating forms free of charge.

Library Communications and Programs Coordinator Kimm Culkin says recent days have seen people having to line up outside of the small building on Garafraxa Street, and adding another crowd on top of that for the time capsule ceremony could create issues, including too much foot traffic in a small space.

The time capsule will remain on display at the Durham Library “for the foreseeable future”, including for Ontario Public Library Week from October 17th-23rd, including a visit from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, who will reportedly make a small contribution to the time capsule before it is locked away.

The library’s plan was for the time capsule to “mark the grit of the community in getting through the past 18 months with good cheer and goodwill”, and was to offer a chance for residents to tour the recently-renovated Durham branch of the West Grey Library.
