Severe thunderstorms, tornadoes threaten midwestern Ontario

A line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes is expected to move through the area for most of Tuesday evening.

Environment Canada initially issued a severe thunderstorm watch for some areas in Huron-Perth County and Grey-Bruce County shortly after 2 p.m.

At around 6 p.m. the alerts were upgraded to warnings for the region. A tornado warning for Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Southern Bruce County and Southern Grey County is also in effect.

As of 6:49 p.m., a tornado watch remains in place for areas near Goderich, Bluewater, Wingham and Blyth.

The line of thunderstorms is forecasted to move east bringing large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

Workers with Hydro One have prepared for possible outages the severe weather could cause.

The alerts will likely persist until later Tuesday night.
