Staff shortage forces temporary closure of Clinton emergency department

The Clinton Public Hospital is temporarily closing its emergency department this weekend.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance cited a staffing shortage as the cause of the closure, which will begin at 8 p.m. on Satuday. The emergency department will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday.

The cause of the staffing shortage is currently unknown.

The emergency department currently operates on a 12-hour schedule, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a
week.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance said anyone who requires immediate medical attention should call 911. While the Clinton hospital is closed, the closest emergency departments in the area are the Seaforth Community Hospital, the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, the South Huron Hospital, and the Wingham & District Hospital.
