Pride crosswalk defaced in Owen Sound

Owen Sound Police are looking for whoever defaced the Pride crosswalk in the city.

In a release, police say they were called to the scene yesterday by a citizen that noticed the damage. It happened sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Owen Sound Public Works was called to help remove the markings right away.

The release also notes that vandalism to Pride crosswalks has happened in other jurisdictions and police are calling on the public “to stand up and speak out against any hate or prejudiced violence.”

“This senseless act is contrary to the beliefs of an accepting and inclusive community,” said Chief Craig Ambrose. “I encourage anyone with information to come forward to police so those responsible can be brought to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Owen Sound Police at (519) 376-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
